We are recruiting participants for a research study to determine whether combining Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) with brain games is a promising treatment for Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). Our hope is that TMS paired with brain games can improve symptoms like changes in memory, thinking skills, and well-being. We aim to help patients RISE above MCI symptoms to better brain health.
TMS is a non-invasive, non-drug procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells. When you receive TMS treatment, a magnetic field is generated by a coil in a paddle, which is held against your head to stimulate specific areas of the brain. In this study, we use a specific type of TMS called accelerated intermittent theta-burst stimulation, which works by rapidly turning a focused magnetic field on-and-off repeatedly.
The magnetic pulses pass painlessly through the skull and stimulate brain cells. Most patients report that TMS treatment does not hurt, but rather that it feels as if someone is tapping on your head.
Computerized brain games help improve memory and thinking skills through challenging exercises. These exercises use puzzles, quick reactions, and attention challenges to keep your thinking skills engaged and active. In this study, we administer the games via an iPad.
